⁉️Ankle Sprains lead to ACL Tears⁉️

Ankle Sprains are a common injury in sports.

Typically, off an athlete sprains an ankle, the recovery looks like this:

❌ Ice

❌ Rest

❌ Brace (or tape)

❌ Play

Little attention has is given to actually restoring mobility and stability in the ankle.

If it doesn’t actively hurt, then everything is ok, right?

No.

If you sprain your ankle, you have a 5 times higher risk of tearing your ACL.

WHAT?

Yes, 5️⃣ x increase in risk.

WHY?

It’s a chain reaction.

Stability is not restored in the ankle and the athlete has proprioceptive deficits.

This then causes issues in glute Maximus and glute medius activation.

That in turn decreases trunk stability and increases the risk of a serious injury, such as an ACL tear.

So, if you or your athlete has had an ankle injury, make sure that they go through the proper protocols to return to sport.

▪️Regain stability

▪️Increase range of motion

▪️Rebuild strength in the ankle

Not only will it reduce the risk of injury in the future, but it will increase reaction time and performance.
