Training Athletes to Compete

You know that kid.

The one that never gives up.

That doesn’t allow the scoreboard to determine their effort.

The player that pushes hard no matter the score.

That is all I want for my kids and athletes.

There is too much focus on the outcome.

Yes, winning is great, but if we can get an athlete to compete for the entire game, regardless of what is happening, then we have trained a champion.

Be Great Today is a mantra of teaching success.

These 3 words are combined together to get the most out of someone.

Collectively, they mean one thing.

Be in control of your attitude and your actions.

There is much we can’t control.

But how you think and how you act are controllable.

To compete, you must master your mind, not allowing self-defeat or distraction.

You also must act.

Taking action consistently that aligns with your goals or desired outcomes will make all the difference.

Training athletes to compete means showing up and giving great effort in practice on an early Saturday morning when you want to sleep.

It means pushing hard on a Monday night, regardless of how long your day was.

It also means eating foods that fuel for success and going to bed, not scrolling on your phone.

We work to push athletes to focus on consistently giving great effort while educating them on the things that matter off the court as well.

We do this so they can learn to compete at their highest level.

This will lead to success in sports and, ultimately, in life.

Be Great Today!
